Neighbourhood Watch is a community effort to combat crime. The Police alone cannot prevent crime for reasons as simple as the fact that they probably do not know who lives in your area. Everyone in your settlement, be it small or large, can assist one another with crime prevention. All that is required is a willingness by you and your neighbours to help one another. It is as simple as keeping your eyes and ears open for anything suspicious such as:

Strangers loitering suspiciously.
Open windows or doors in homes when the resident is away or on holiday.
Strangers knocking on doors and peeping through windows then disappearing to the back.
Strangers attempting to open vehicle doors or windows.
Any person or sound that you believe is suspicious.

A detailed description will help the Police to apprehend a suspect. Look out for and write down things like: Weapon, Type of Hat, Hair style and colour, Eyes, Eyeglasses, Shirt, Coat, Trousers, Shoes, Visible scars, Beard or mustache, Age, Height, Weight, Voice and accent, Language, Vehicle type and any other noticeable characteristics.
